Well, it has been an exciting few weeks since our last update.
In true Carbon style, we are ever evolving. So on that note we are delighted to let you know that we are welcoming a few new people into the Carbon Fold.
Adele Carter will be joining Carbon as Lead Talent Scout. Reporting to Linda, Adele will have responsibility for sourcing, attracting and engaging
the best talent for Carbon, whether they be Partners or Hubbers as we continue to grow. Adele joins the team with over 14 years’ recruitment experience, hiring mid-senior level positions, predominantly within the professional services sector. She has worked in businesses such as Deutsche Bank, Lloyds TSB, Reed and most recently Meridian in Cardiff, where as Branch Manager, she has responsibility for overseeing the Wales Commercial Business.
During her career Adele has also had solid experience in supporting individuals to make the transition from employed to self-employed roles. We have no doubt that Adele will play a critical role in Carbon’s future.
With Adele’s arrival, Linda will now focus on shaping and driving the overall People Strategy for Carbon, ensuring that
in line with our growth strategy, we continue to build our
culture to attract, develop and retain the best Partners and Hub Team Members. Linda will share an update on our people strategy at the Annual Partner Meeting in May.
PARTNER SUPPORT TEAM
Joining us on 3rd April as Lead Administrator, Partner Support, is Rachel Allen. Rachel comes from New Directions Education where she has amassed a wealth of experience in administration, client relationship management and contract management within the education sector.
Rachel will be working very closely with Joc over the coming weeks to get up to speed with our services and processes. As she settles in, Rachel will be in touch with each of you to say hello.
NEW CARBON PARTNER
We are delighted that James Sayer is to join Carbon. James has over 20 years experience in the real estate industry as a practising solicitor, both in the UK and Australia. He is focused on commercial real estate and related investment management.
James has also worked in-house as Assistant General Counsel for Lend Lease's investment management business where he was responsible for the legal work arising out of Lend Lease's Australian c.$16bn commercial real estate portfolio.
Add to that skills which include extensive experience of advising on investment management matters, roles as company secretary to a number of operational and trustee boards, and I am sure you will agree that James will be a fabulous addition to the Carbon Team.
We love a celebration at Carbon and 1st April marks a few Carbon anniversaries. Jo Fisher and Kevin Morgan have been with us for 2 years. And we would also like to say happy 1st anniversary to Jon Hill, Jonny Beck and Anne Bennett. It's great to have you all on the journey with us.
FULL STOP HERE
As you know Carbon’s mission is to be "Advisers of choice to fast growing and enterprising businesses in the UK and beyond."
With that in mind, I’m really pleased to confirm that Carbon will tomorrow complete the acquisition of a majority stake in an accountancy firm. The business, called Full Stop Accounts, is the brainchild of Lauren Harvey. Lauren and her team will join Carbon as employees on Monday and will be located in the Hub. Since negotiations have been underway Full Stop have already made several referrals to Partners.
The Full Stop Accounts proposition offers businesses of all sizes a range of options for their accounting needs and uses the latest technology to provide real time views of business performance for business leaders.
This deal offers great opportunities to grow both the law and accounting propositions. Lauren already has clients in Cardiff, Bristol and London. For at least the next six months Full Stop Accounts will continue to operate under its own name. We’ll consider the longer term branding options towards the end of 2017.
Up until now Carbon has had no preferred accounting firm, but all that changes on Monday. We will be growing Lauren’s team with new members, looking at the creation of a self-employed “Partner” model for the accounting firm and bringing Lauren’s subscription model to Carbon to build our SME proposition. Naturally, all this will take time so please watch out for more news.
During the next few weeks we’ll be publishing a guide to referrals and also news on a proposition for Full Stop to handle Partner’s Business Accounts. Lauren will join us at the Annual Partner Meeting on 18th May and will give Partners an overview of the business. She will stay on after that so there will be the opportunity for us all to get to know each other better.
We’re looking forward to welcoming Lauren, Alex, Emma and Leah to the Hub on Monday and can’t wait to add numbers to words at Carbon. Pictures next!!
We are a giving bunch at Carbon.
Since the end of last year Michael has been talking about letting people out there know this - showing them that Carbon has a conscience. So he's decided to launch the first Carbon fundraising campaign. After that it will be over to all of you to suggest what's next.
As most middle aged men out there can testify, when the sex, drugs and rock n' roll becomes too much, there is only place left to go - lycra. An that is exactly what Michael and his friend John will be wearing when they head off on their road trip.
And a long road it is. In October they are going to cycle over 5 days from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas. They are doing this in support of George Thomas Hospice Care in Cardiff. Michael and John have agreed to cycle nearly 600km through the Grand Canyon, across the Nevada Desert to their final destination, Las Vegas. The ride should take 5 days in total, although it is quite possible that it might take them longer!
To make it all the more worthwhile, their aim is to raise at least £8,000 in support of their chosen charity, which is perhaps a greater challenge than the bike ride itself! In order to help them to achieve this goal, they are going to need your help!
You can find out more about the brilliant work that George Thomas Hospice Care do across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Take a look, you'll see what's motivated them to get into the saddle and feel the pain.
Watch this space for news about fundraising events and
how you can help.
7 weeks is the time left until we all get together for our Annual Partner Meeting on 18th of May. As you know we are going to the Hotel du Vin in Bristol for our Partner Meeting, dinner and overnight stay.
On the day coffee will be ready and waiting for you at 9.30am with our first session kicking off at 10am sharp.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us about what you'd like to have on the meeting programme. We have shaped things according to your feedback and we think you will find the sessions useful and interesting.
Can you firm up with Judith if you would like overnight accommodation on the 18th. She will also be happy to answer any other questions that you might have.
