INSIDE CARBON

April 28, 2017

Great to be starting another update with the phrase
"It's been an exciting month at Carbon".
And what a month it has been, take a read below to find out why.

WELCOME ON BOARD

We are delighted to welcome another 2 new partners into the Carbon fold.

STUART DAVIES | LONDON
Corporate Lawyer, Stuart Davies joins us on 1 May.  Stuart started his career with Norton Rose, before moving to McDermott Emery.  He then spent some time as an investment banker before moving to Qatar to work as a General Counsel in ventures originated by the Emir of Qatar's Sovereign Wealth Fund.  Stuart is married with two children and lives in Caversham near Reading.

NATALIE MURRAY | LONDON
Natalie is a banking lawyer who trained and qualified with Blake Morgan, working in their Oxford office, before leaving to start a family with her husband, Jamie.  Natalie was introduced to Carbon by Spindogs, who we work with on web and digital media. After a meeting with Linda she was sold on continuing her career with Carbon.

Natalie brings with her a superb way of communicating with clients.  She uses pictures and a storyboard to show them how she will work with them and what she will be doing. We’ll work on developing the “Art of Law” with Natalie’s help.

FULL STOP CHATTER

FULL STOP PRESS

We are about to put out some press about Full Stop and our tie up, so we wanted to share it with you all first.

No stopping Carbon as it becomes the majority stakeholder of ‘Full Stop Accounts’ Carbon, the advisory brand and platform has acquired a majority stake in the innovative business, Full Stop Accounts.  The Full Stop Team joined Carbon in April, creating the opportunity for each organisation to develop and apply the other’s business model.

The teaming up of these two challenger brands has created something that will truly benefit clients, by providing a broader, deeper offering of advice and support.

Commenting on the deal, Michael Burne, Chief Executive of Carbon said, “Lauren and the team at Full Stop are building a great business.  They deliver exceptional services to fast growing businesses who want real time accounting information that’s easy to understand.  Lauren’s background in artificial intelligence and systems is a key differentiator in the service proposition. The managed service subscription offerings that Full Stop deliver are very relevant to other professional advisory offerings that Carbon is developing.”

Lauren Harvey, Founder and MD of Full Stop Accounts said, “Positive client feedback has told us that we are bang on track with our services.  Being part of Carbon allows us to benefit from  their broader management capability and talented team, in turn developing our innovative accounting offering.  We are keen to explore the growing opportunities open to Full Stop and Carbon enables us to invest in people and systems so we can grow faster and stronger.  At the end of the day it’s all about people. Our teams gel together really well and have a shared vision of how to deliver professional advice in a way that clients love.”

We are working to build additional accounting capacity in Full Stop to meet the growing demand they are generating.  Once that’s in place we’ll share with you all more about how Partners can work with, refer to, and receive referrals from the Full Stop team.

F-LEX(IBLE)

DOUBLE DISRUPTION

Racing up the priority list in response to both current Partner and new joiner requirements, we're delighted to announce a tie up with F-LEX, a fellow Times featured Top 10 Legal Disruptor. F-LEX is an online platform which provides pre-vetted paralegals to law firms and general counsels for periods ranging from half a day upwards.

F-LEX can make just one paralegal available or up to 50, operate at very short notice, and cost as little as £20 per hour.  The paralegals are all pre-validated LPC and LLM law students many of whom have training contracts, are bilingual and some are even foreign qualified.

Some organisations are also exploring using F-LEX to utilise students to whom they have offered training contracts so that they get some experience before joining the organisation and therefore “hit the ground running”. Other firms use paralegals remotely to carry out research on their behalf.

We will start a F-LEX pilot next week with a couple of Partners - please shout if you’d like to be one of them.  You’ll have the chance to meet F-LEX’s Co-founder, Mary Bonsor at the Annual Partner Meeting.
