Sharing news about the Carbon Community and updates on Platform Alterations.

A warm welcome to Emyr Evans who joins the Finance Team. As Michael previously mentioned Emyr is a qualified Chartered Accountant who trained with Deloitte and has run his own successful business. He has been Carbon's accountant since 2010 so is well versed on our business. Emyr told us " The way professional services are delivered is changing rapidly. Being part of the Carbon Team, working together to lead the way in this changing world is very exciting." Please join us in welcoming Emyr on board.

Despite a month where folks switch off the computer to concentrate on chocolate, mince pies and TV, we experienced encouraging results throughout December across our websites and social platforms. There were increases in new users to our Flourish With Carbon careers site, with thanks to our current advertising campaign, which also led to a jump in referrals to the Carbon Law Partners corporate website. Meanwhile, our LinkedIn presence received a mammoth 241% boost in impressions and was accompanied by new followers, along with rising numbers for Twitter followers, impressions, link clicks, and engagement.

We’re so proud to be leading the way as the first truly stakeholder owned Platform in legal services. Of course, we want to share this great news far and wide. In the first instance we have issued a press release on The Carbon Stakeholder Story to the legal and business media. We will then be amplifying this story on our social platforms. When we do (you know what’s coming)…please can you share, share, share. Thank you.

Nev will be lacing up his boxing gloves and stepping into the ring to take part in a white collar boxing match in aid of Cancer Research UK. His training will start soon to get him match fit for the big night, which is taking place on 13th April at the University of the West England. It would be great if we could show Nev our support, whether that's in person on the night, or through making a donation on his Just Giving Page. Thanks all and good luck Nev.

Great to see that so many of you are able to make it along for drinks at The Hub this Friday, 18th Jan. If you've still to let Judith know if you can make it or not please drop her an e-mail by end of play Thursday.

As part of our continual review and assessment of the core services provided on the Carbon Platform, we have been aware that a number of Partners have requested the addition of Westlaw to the available legal resources. Following Brexit-like intensity of negotiations with Thomas Reuters, we are delighted to announce that we have an (un-Brexit-like) agreement to make Westlaw accessible to Partners as from the 1st February. As part of the agreement, we have arranged for full training to be given to those Partners who are not familiar with the service or who would like a refresher. It is worth highlighting that the Westlaw site has recently undergone a substantial make-over and so would encourage you to attend one of the WebEx training sessions to make sure you get the most out of it. Please click here to register your attendance at one of the available sessions. We hope you approve of the addition of Westlaw to the Carbon services and will be looking for your feedback on how you are finding it during your monthly Partner Support calls.”

We have been working hard over recent months in conjunction with IT and Actionstep to investigate how we can deliver improvements to the behaviour and use of emails within Actionstep. Following rigorous testing, we are delighted to announce that significant improvements have been made and we will be releasing an update at the close of business on the 28th January. As with all major IT updates, and regardless of the amount of testing undertaken, there is always a small risk of disruption and we will be monitoring the email traffic closely during the deployment of the updates to make sure that everything goes smoothly. To get you up to speed, short training videos have been produced for you as best practice guides and these videos are now available for your viewing pleasure through the Actionstep Training button on the Carbon Platform! It is important that you go through these orientation slides and videos but please remember that all changes are effective from the 29th of January so please don’t put any of these into practice until then. Rachel will be picking these up with you in your regular Partner Support calls and you can also request additional training through the Platform. Finally, in advance of the update, there are a couple of small steps that we will need to take to make sure that your configuration settings are all correct. These are as follows: -

  • At 5.00pm on the 28th January, we will be setting you all up with email aliases (don’t worry about what these are!).

  • On the morning of the 29th January, we will need each of you to set the email alias to be the default within Actionstep. This is a very simple process and we will provide a short “how to” guide on this and will be in contact with each of you on the day to ensure that you are all set up and ready to go.

Further improvements to Actionstep and core services are in development and we will be letting you all know more about these in the weeks to come.
