We are very pleased to announce that two new Partners have recently agreed to join us. Yvette Briggs starts next week and brings a wealth of experience in commercial and residential property transactions. Based just outside Bristol, Yvette previously worked for Thrings and CMS Cameron McKenna and most recently was a Senior Partner at Hoffman Briggs.

Second, and as announced at the Quarterly Partner Meeting, Kempton Rees will be joining us from the 1st April. Kempton is recognised as one of Wales’ leading commercial litigators and insolvency specialists. He is also known for his expertise in IP litigation. Kempton joins us from Darwin Gray, where he is a Partner and Head of the Dispute Resolution team. He is also a part time Judge in the First Tier Tribunal (Social Entitlement Chamber).

A huge welcome to Carys Durham who has joined the Hub Team as Trainee Finance Assistant supporting Hannah, Rory and Emyr. Great to have Carys on board.


You should all be aware that the forms you submit to Finance are stored under the “Accounting Forms” folder of the Matter on Actionstep. Whilst this provides for a complete record of your instructions, a number of Partners have suggested that it would be useful if a copy of the form was also sent to the instructing Partner on submission.

So – we are pleased to announce that as from the 8th March, each Finance form will contain an option for you to input your email address and have a copy forwarded to you. We have designed this as an option rather than a default position as we appreciate that not every Partner will want copies.

ACTIONSTEP E-MAIL UPDATES. Just a quick reminder to you all that we are planning the delayed Actionstep email updates for the evening of the 4th March. A reminder of the simple instructions for you to follow along with pop-ups in Actionstep will be provided to you in advance of the go-live.

FINAL REMINDER. AML TRAINING. Please can you complete the mandatory AML training by Friday 8th March at the latest.

If you are not able to complete all modules by Friday 8 March 2019 please email Michael to seek an extension with the reason why you need more time and the date by which you will complete it. A failure to complete the training or to seek an extension of time for this mandatory training will mean that we will have to consider your ongoing authorisation.

As you all know, quality and development are key to Carbon’s beliefs and we have a duty to ensure we are all kept safe too!


We are very pleased to announce that fees arising from referrals from the Hub will now be shared on a 60:40 basis between the Partners and the Hub. This will include work in progress on matters already opened but not yet billed.

This change breaks with the market standard fee split of 50:50. Great news and an incentive to work together to identify the cross selling opportunities both within the legal practice and additionally through engagement with the recently formed advisory practice, Carbon Advisory Partners Limited.

ANNUAL PARTNER MEETING 2019. As Michael mentioned at the Quarterly Meeting the Annual Partner Meeting will be taking place on Tuesday 1st May at St George's in Bristol.

The meeting will start at 10.00am sharp, lunch will be provided and we'll wrap up by 5.00pm. There is on street parking at the venue, directions and venue information can be found via the above link. There of course will be the option for those who wish, to make an evening of it. Please let us know if you'd like to stay on for dinner and we'll co-ordinate the arrangements. For those of you who would like to stay overnight in Bristol we will be sending information out to you on accommodation next week. Carbon will be covering the costs for the meeting and lunch. The optional evening meal, transportation and accommodation costs are to be met directly by Partners. Can you please let Laura know
